This medication is used to treat infertility in women. It works by stimulating an increase in the amount of hormones that support the growth and release of a mature egg (ovulation). This medication is not recommended for women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly (primary pituitary or ovarian failure). Clomiphene must be taken by mouth exactly as directed by your doctor in order to be most effective. It is important to follow your dosing schedule carefully. An Authorized Generic version of Clomid has been approved. An Authorized Generic is a prescription drug that is produced by a brand company under a New Drug Application (NDA) and marketed as a generic under a private label. It is identical to the branded product in appearance, and unlike a generic, the Authorized Generic has exactly the same inactive ingredients. List of authorized generic versions: Note: Fraudulent online pharmacies may attempt to sell an illegal generic version of Clomid. These medications may be counterfeit and potentially unsafe. If you purchase medications online, be sure you are buying from a reputable and valid online pharmacy. Ask your health care provider for advice if you are unsure about the online purchase of any medication. Always consult your healthcare provider to ensure the information displayed on this page applies to your personal circumstances. Your doctor has handed you a prescription for Clomid, and you're eager to try this popular fertility drug treatment. Unless your insurance plan covers Clomid—and many don't—you may be concerned about the cost. Clomid is relatively inexpensive when compared to other fertility treatments, but it's obviously not free and may be more than you're used to paying for medication. By itself, the price of Clomid ranges from $9 to $150, depending on dosage and if you're using generic or brand name. Most people have a pharmacy near their home or work that they prefer to use. But before you fill your prescription there, consider price shopping first. Since you don't usually take Clomid until after your next cycle begins, you should have extra time for the price shopping.
Less common effects (1-10% of people) include visual symptoms (blurred vision, double vision, floaters, eye sensitivity to light, scotomata), headaches, vasomotor flushes (or hot flashes), light sensitivity and pupil constriction, abnormal uterine bleeding and/or abdominal discomfort. Clomifene can lead to multiple ovulation, hence increasing the chance of twins (10% of births instead of ~1% in the general population) and triplets. Some studies have suggested that clomifene citrate if used for more than a year may increase the risk of ovarian cancer. The incidence of fetal and neonatal abnormalities for patients on clomifene for fertility is similar to that seen in the general population. There is no data to suggest a higher rate of congenital anomalies or spontaneous abortions after using this drug. Compared to letrozole, another drug used for ovarian stimulation, a study found no significant difference in the rate of overall abnormalities, but found that congenital cardiac anomalies was significantly higher in the clomifene group compared to the letrozole group. Clomifene is a nonsteroidal SERM that inhibits estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, inhibiting negative feedback of estrogen on gonadotropin release, leading to up-regulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis. I just started Clomid..actually the generic of Clomid..Sunday. Is anyone aware of any differences between the generic and brand name? I haven't had ANY side effects and it's actually concerning me...shouldn't I be feeling something? It has the same chemical properties, so I am not worried. I have never had side effects, but last month I got 2 good follicles, so it must be doing something! I also took generic Clomid, as my MD didn't think there was any difference in success rates between the two. I don't think generic versus name brand made any difference. I've heard story after story of how homonal my friends have been while taking it. I will know later this week how this month's dose did. Also, I didn't have any side effects either time I took it either. I took the generic and my doctor never even asked me if I wanted the "name brand" version. Actually I think that might be why it's prescribed more often because since it's infertility related insurance may not cover it. This is my first round (cd18) and while I was taking my pills I didn't notice anything so I was a little concerned but a couple of days after my last pill I started getting hot flashes and my moodiness went through the roof lol. Everybody is going to react differently.m I took 100mg and only complaint was hot flashes. I took generic, my pharmacist usually gives generic everything unless u specifically ask otherwise, generic n real are the same makeup so dont worry :) good luck to u! yeah the name brand is VERY expensive they wanted like 300 for 21 pills..
